Laughing Gas & Labor

Why Nitrous Oxide is a great option to help cope through birth.

Nitrous is a great option for folks in labor who want to continue to move around in labor or are feeling anxious.

Nitrous does NOT take away the pain, instead it may dull the pain and potentially make you a bit sleepy or feel a little out of it.

Benefits can include helping with rest BETWEEN waves of labor.

Nitrous has little effect on the baby. It has a very quick effectiveness and leaves your body very quick as well.

Nitrous can also help a birthing person feel some control over their labor. You are the ONLY person that controls the nitrous oxide administered during labor, you will place it on your face when breathing during the contractions and take it off in between.

When you don’t want to lie down and you’re feeling tired nitrous and a doula or partner can be a great option to help you rest while in an upright seated position or with small movements. Nitrous can be administered while in a labor tub, so long as the provider agrees.
